New Urban Agenda
The New Urban Agenda is a global framework for sustainable urban development, adopted at the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) in Quito, Ecuador, in 2016.
It addresses key urban challenges including poverty and inequality, inadequate housing and basic services, climate change, disaster risk, environmental sustainability, mobility and inclusive economic development. The Agenda promotes people-centred and participatory urban planning, stronger urban governance, sustainable infrastructure, resilient communities and meaningful engagement of governments, communities, civil society and other stakeholders. It is closely aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 11 on inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities.
